The kit

OK. Things are beginning to take shape. We have a departure date; June 22, 2015 and a loose plan that I suspect might change a few times!

We are going to race up through the centre seeing only the highlights that will include Uluru, Kings Canyon and get to the Top End as soon as we can. We reckon, perhaps naively that with this trip we ought to go to the places that it will be harder for us to get to in future. We also know how cold it is in the centre at night in June / July (0-5 Celsius) and how unpleasant a camper trailer can be at these temperatures!

Once we get Top End we plan to spend about two months there, then move on (mid September) and spend two months in the north east and then the last 2 months in the south west. The plan is to ‘turn left’ and head for home when we start running out of time. If we get to the SE sooner we will spend more time around Adelaide and Lake Eyre in January 2016.

So there it is… more details to follow. It will be interesting to see if the reality sticks to the plans!

Over the next few weeks I will blog details about the car, and what we have done to it and why, our camper trailer and the modifications that we have done to it, and finally a bit about the preparation over the last 12 months (road trips, courses, reading).
